Mowgli is a smart, calm, older gentleman who perks up for all forms of catnip, Churu treats and beams of sunshine. Next to regular meals, his favourite activity is looking out of a cracked window and sniffing the air. After 7-8 years outside, he has fully settled into indoor life and is wonderful company, snoozing during the day and emerging in the evening to spend it close by. He has excellent manners with perfect litter box and scratching pad use, and because he waits patiently for breakfast, he will never wake you up. He prefers self-play and does not associate playtime with his human family. In his years outside, he lost his ears to frostbite, and due to mistreatment from humans, he is wary and will not accept touch. He communicates his displeasure with a short hiss and removes himself. He will thrive in a quiet house without dogs or children. He is also submissive, so he will be best as an only cat or with gentle cats that will not dominate or bully him. Mowgli needs an experienced and patient adopter who understands his needs and boundaries. Mowgli prefers his own routine and requires a lot of patience when disrupting his routine (such as going to the vet).Mowgli is FIV positive and feline leukemia negative. He has had all his teeth removed and requires a senior diet (dry food is fine!). Mowgli needs regular senior bloodwork and is due for his next test in August 2024. Like all ACR cats, he has been treated for fleas and parasites.Cats with FIV can live a long and happy life. Annex Cat Rescue has matched over 1000 cats and kittens with good adoptive homes since our group started! Annex Cat Rescue cats live in real homes with our foster volunteers -- not in cages! This way, the cats live in normal homes and receive good food and medical care -- and lots of personal attention. We get to know each cat, so we can help you find the best cat for you. It's kind of like a kitty match-making service! All of our cats are vaccinated, have been de-wormed, and are spayed or neutered once they reach six months of age. We are always available if you have questions or concerns as your new cat is adjusting to your home. Here is our adoption process: Please leave a voice mail or email. One of our Adoption Team volunteers will contact you to find out more about the kind of kitty you are looking for. We will suggest which of our cats might be the best match for you, and put you in touch with a few foster homes for you to contact. You can go and visit the cat in the foster home and see if you think it's a match. If you fall in love on the spot (so easy with kitties!) we ask you to go home and think about it overnight, since it's an important decision for you and for the kitty. Then, if it's a match, you can bring your cat carrier (and the adoption fee -- which is modest and does not cover all of our expenses) then take your kitty home! We ask all adopters to sign our adoption agreement, which just sets out some basics so we all understand our roles, with the kitty's best interests first and foremost! A day or two later, we'll call you to make sure all is well and provide any suggestions that might be helpful, if needed. The Annex Cat Rescue's motto is "Cat Adoption with a Difference." Our organization attempts to make a real difference for the homeless, stray and abandoned cats in this city through direct intervention and education. Every day, many people turn to us for help when Toronto Animal Services cannot. ACR does *not* run an animal shelter. All of our cats/kittens live in volunteer foster homes across Toronto where they are allowed to blossom and grow in a "home" environment (rather than in cages), and where they receive individual attention and love. While this prevents possible behavioural problems associated with caging animals, this also allows us to get to know each animal intimately and thus we can make excellent matches with adopters. Potential adopters are required to make appointments to view the animals in their respective homes. Our organization is "no kill". This means that cats in our care remain in foster homes are not euthanized (except for dire humane reasons). City shelters do not have such a policy.
